The Challenge
Food insecurity remains one of the most pressing challenges facing communities across the Horn of Africa, driven by conflict, climate change, economic instability, and weak agricultural systems.

Food Crisis
An estimated 20+ million people face acute food insecurity across the Horn of Africa in any given year, with pastoral and agro-pastoral communities among the most vulnerable.
The key challenges included:
• Chronic underproduction of staple crops due to outdated farming methods
• Post-harvest losses exceeding 30% of total production
• Limited access to markets and fair pricing for smallholder farmers
• Insufficient storage, processing, and distribution infrastructure
Our Solution
Our food security enhancement program took a holistic value chain approach, addressing challenges from production through consumption.
Agricultural Production
We introduced improved seed varieties, modern farming techniques, and integrated pest management to boost yields while maintaining soil health and environmental sustainability.
Post-Harvest Management
We established community-level storage facilities and trained farmers in post-harvest handling techniques, dramatically reducing losses and improving food availability during lean seasons.

Addressing food security requires interventions at every stage of the value chain — from seed selection to market access. Isolated interventions rarely produce sustainable results.
